The municipality of Septemvri is located in westernmost part of the upper Thracian valley, between the northern slopes of the Rhodopa mountains and the foothills of Western Ikhtiman Sredna Gora mountains. It encompasses 15 settlements - town of Septemvri, town of Vetren and 13 villages.

Highway Trakia, a major Euro-Asian transport corridor, passes through the Septemvri. The railroad connects Western Europe and Asia. There is a special rail track, starting from Septemvri, connecting Trakia, the Rhodopa and Pirin mountains.

The moderate climate and important crossroads have contributed to very early settlements. There are many former village and Thracian grave hills, road station, fortresses and holy grounds of many cultures, over 200 sites of archaeological interest.
